The Lake Okeechobee water levels usually fluctuate 2-5 feet each year depending on the hurricane season and the rainy season during the summer months. The water levels on Lake Okeechobee have been on a up and down roller coaster for the last 5 years. After the hurricanes in 2006 the Okeechobee water levels rose to 17 feet above sea level, which is 2-4 feet above the normal lake levels. In 2007 the state of Florida was in a drought and lake Okeechobee Water levels dropped to there lowest levels in history to 8.74 ft. above sea level.

Now in 2008 the Lake Okeechobee water levels are back to normal and the lake looks as pretty as I have ever seen it. The low water level that plagued Lake Okeechobee actually helped it in so many ways, with the biggest being that all the good grasses grew back stronger than ever.
