Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report

Here is our fishing report for
Mosquito Lagoon. The Mosquito Lagoon area is part of the Indian River and is
located between Titusville and Daytona Beach. In the shadow of
the Launch pads at Kennedy Space Center, This waterway is the
worlds Destination for great Redfish. While there are many
species to fish for in the lagoon such as sea Trout,
Jack Crevalle, and Mackerel. The Redfish is the pinnacle
fish to catch.
Fishing here is good year around for any of the
species, with the spring to fall being the absolute best.
Fishing Report Spring 2007
Early spring
can be one of the most magical times on Mosquito Lagoon. Getting out early
before sunup and nice calm water is the most exciting thing to see. This
time of year the best time to catch nice
trout will be early mornings, and
late afternoons after our rains. Fronts coming through will make conditions
tough at times and make the water murky and the fish tough to spot.
Redfish on Mosquito Lagoon
will be best caught during twilight hours and out of the heat of the day.
Find them around submerged points from shallow flats, around spoil islands
and drop offs. Spring patterns will require long casts, and patience, but
the pay off is great. Huge Trout can be caught early also around the same
areas, and they will move toward shallow flats as the sun gets up.
This is also the time of year
to find ladyfish feeding heavy and hard around noon in open water areas, and
they can be a fly fisherman’s dream. If you are planning on coming down to
fish Mosquito Lagoon and are looking to fight a few nice
redfish, tangle
with some trout, you will not be disappointed. Most days when the weather
cooperates it is a wonderful adventure.
Tackle to use this time of
year can include topwater lures like a small Top Dog by Mirror Lure, 4 inch
Chug Bug by Storm Lures, and for plastics one of my personal favorite is a
white Zoom Super Fluke. The trout and reds will love these. Depending on the
winds, long and careful casts will determine your success. With some chop on
the water, you will have better luck.
We look forward to fishing
with you and guiding you to some nice Reds and Trout. No matter if you want
traditional tackle, or want to wade with a fly rod, this adventure is right
up your alley if you want some calm excitement. Be sure to check the rest of
our site for other information and give us a call when you are ready to go
fishing.
God Bless and Tight Lines till
next time,
Capt. Tony Weatherman
